Announcing: Death By Christmas Cake

The news is finally out! I’m pleased to share that for my next book I get to tackle a Christmas themed cozy mystery, which will arrive later this year filled with holiday cheer and hi-jinks.

In Death By Christmas Cake, an amateur sleuth puts the knowledge she gathered from true crime podcasts to clear a famous cookbook author’s name from murder.

Published by Datura Books it’s arriving November 6, 2026, just in time for the holidays!

Death By Christmas Cake

Keisha Scott has been working with the legendary chef Shirleen Foster to update her classic cookbook, Season by Season, for its 50th anniversary. The festivities start with a dinner party highlighting the 12 Christmas Cakes that made Shirleen famous. It’s all of Keisha’s dreams come true, but before the night is over, things will go horribly wrong…

Shirleen’s former-collaborator-turned-rival, Ruby Walton, arrives at the party and accuses Shirleen of stealing her recipes. The two have an argument, and when Ruby is found dead a short while later, the police have all the evidence needed to arrest Shirleen as the top suspect.

Keisha is less convinced, however. Inspired by her passion for true crime podcasts, she sets out on a mission to prove her boss’s innocence. Fortunately, she’s not alone. Virgil Sullivan, Shirleen’s nephew and podcast host, is just as eager to clear his aunt’s name, and agrees to help, even though his motives may be less than pure.

Together the unlikely duo will seek out answers to unravel the mystery and catch a devious culprit before the trail goes cold.

I had a lot of fun writing this one, especially as I wrote this as Christmas unfolded in real time around me. It had also been a long time since I got to write something set modern-day, so it was fun figuring out what to do cell phones and the Internet as I wrote.

This book is also a send up to my love of food media and podcasts, both which got me through some interesting times. It’s also set in a fictional version of Tidewater Virginia, so if you’re from the 757, there will be little nods to familiar places, names, and the region’s history.

I can’t wait to share this book, and if you can’t wait either you can get on the list now for an early review copy.
